Cap de Formentor cliffs

The road out to the cape is a famous one. Thirteen kilometres of switchbacks from Port de Pollença, cut into the limestone by the engineer Antoni Paretti in the 1920s, opening onto pull-offs where the Mediterranean drops away to a blue that doesn't seem to belong to a coast. The lighthouse at the end has stood since 1863. The cliffs around it fall almost four hundred metres straight to the sea. People stop at the Mirador des Colomer and don't say much.
