A night launch from Cape Canaveral writes a long, lit arc across the Atlantic sky. The exhaust catches whatever light is left and holds it for a few minutes after the rocket itself is gone. People pull off on A1A and onto the Indian River causeways to watch. Nobody talks much until the trail thins out and the cicadas come back.

Slowly infused into the ceramic surface under high heat and pressure, in our family studio in Knoxville, Tennessee.
