The Appalachian Trail runs straight down Laurel Avenue, the Virginia Creeper Trail crosses on its old railbed, and four other long trails meet inside the village limits. Every May the population multiplies for Trail Days and then settles back to the quiet of a Mount Rogers foothill town.
