The last beach on Kauaʻi you can reach by foot. Eleven miles past where the highway ends, the Kalalau Trail leaves Kēʻē Beach, climbs the first ridge, and traces the sea cliffs of the Nā Pali Coast — pali in Hawaiian — until the valley opens and a half-mile of sand appears between the cliffs and the surf. The cliffs rise above two thousand feet and stay green through the dry summer. The hikers who get there in the morning have the place to themselves for a few hours.

Slowly infused into the ceramic surface under high heat and pressure, in our family studio in Knoxville, Tennessee.
