The docks at Mystic Seaport hold three full-rigged ships year-round. The Charles W. Morgan, an 1841 wooden whaler. The Joseph Conrad, an 1882 iron training ship. The L.A. Dunton, a 1921 Gloucester schooner. From the bridge in town their topmasts read against the sky before the hulls come into view. The yardarms cross. The rigging holds.

Slowly infused into the ceramic surface under high heat and pressure, in our family studio in Knoxville, Tennessee.
