Lake Habeeb sits in a gap between Evitts Mountain and Martin Mountain, a 243-acre reservoir held by an earthen dam at the eastern end. The water reads green in summer and slate in October when the maples on the surrounding ridges go red. Rocky Gap State Park wraps the shoreline, and a quiet path along the western edge gives the lake back to anyone willing to walk twenty minutes from the parking lot. The mountains close in on both sides. The wind comes through the gap.
