Salado historic Stagecoach Inn

A white-framed, two-storey roadhouse that has been receiving travellers on the Salado Creek crossing since the 1860s. The Stagecoach Inn served stage passengers, cattle drovers on the Chisholm Trail, Sam Houston, Robert E. Lee, and a long line of more ordinary travellers who needed a meal and a bed. The original guest register survives. The hominy and the hush puppies are still on the menu. Out back the live oaks lean toward the creek, the same creek the stage horses watered at before climbing the road north.

Slowly infused into the ceramic surface under high heat and pressure, in our family studio in Knoxville, Tennessee.
