A nearly perfect circle of mountains about ten miles across, visible from orbit. The Solitario is the eroded remains of a Cretaceous-age dome, lifted and then hollowed out by its own creeks. You reach it on rough roads through Big Bend Ranch, the largest state park in Texas. There is no cell signal, no shade to speak of, and the silence carries the wind.

Slowly infused into the ceramic surface under high heat and pressure, in our family studio in Knoxville, Tennessee.
