A small fishing village on the Taylor County side of the Big Bend, where the Steinhatchee River slides under a low bridge and out into the Gulf. Shrimp boats and skiffs share the same channel. The summer scallop season pulls families up from Tampa and Tallahassee with mesh bags and snorkels. After Idalia in 2023 and Helene in 2024 the docks were rebuilt twice, mostly by the same hands. The light here is flat and bright by noon, then long and gold by five.
