The Menil Collection campus

A thirty-acre campus the de Menils stitched together one bungalow at a time, then handed to Renzo Piano to crown with a single long gray building. Admission is free. The Rothko Chapel sits a short walk south, the Cy Twombly Gallery a short walk north, the Drawing Institute a courtyard between. The neighborhood is residential and quiet. People cross the lawns barefoot in summer. Nothing about it announces itself. That is the point.
