In the upper square of Agia Paraskevi, one of the four parishes of Tsagarada, a single plane tree spreads over the flagstones and the small whitewashed church. The trunk measures about fourteen metres around and is said to be more than a thousand years old. Cafés sit at its roots; the Aegean drops away below the village through chestnut and beech forest. The leaves are slow to turn.
