Wiseman sits on the Middle Fork of the Koyukuk River, about thirteen miles north of Coldfoot and well above the Arctic Circle. A cluster of log cabins among black spruce, the village has held on since 1908, when miners moved up from the older camp at Coldfoot. A few families winter through. Robert Marshall stayed here in the early 1930s and wrote of the people he met as the happiest he had known.

Slowly infused into the ceramic surface under high heat and pressure, in our family studio in Knoxville, Tennessee.
